What is S.H.I.E.L.D.?

S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement Logistics Division. What this means is S.H.I.E.L.D. is the division responsible for protecting the planet from extra-normal threats through the strategic deployment of logistical and operational personnel. S.H.I.E.L.D. has been at the front lines of some of the worlds greatest battles. Some known, and some unknown.

S.H.I.E.L.D. was founded after World War II in the wake of the Strategic Scientific Reserve’s battle with Hydra, Nazi Germany’s advanced science division. Over the back half of the 20th century, and the first years of the 21st, S.H.I.E.L.D. has investigated occurrences across the globe, acting in the best interests of the United States and the planet in defensive and offensive operations.

In 2014, S.H.I.E.L.D. was dissolved following the assassination of Director Nicholas Fury, which resulted in the discovery that Hydra had infiltrated and taken over S.H.I.E.L.D. almost entirely. Over the next several years several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents operated without government authorization to continue the S.H.I.E.L.D. mission, as well as neutralize Hydra cells across the globe.

In 2019, S.H.I.E.L.D. was officially reformed under the leadership of Director Alphonso “Mac” Mackenzie. The S.H.I.E.L.D. academies were reopened, and global operations began again.
